Rack Mounted Industrial Switches

Putting together an order for two 19″ rack mounted Cisco IE-4000’s. This client is running out of wall space on the factory floor and is expanding capacity from IT’s IDF closets. I personally dig this setup.

The IT guys usually have clean, air conditioned racks that are mostly easy to work on. It’s a bit of a luxury and for short runs works great.

These are a little bit older model, but at this site it’s their standard and they had extra in their spare inventory.

These particular models are great. We’re only using about 1/3rd of it’s capability, but I get all worked up just looking at the potential.

Question for folks doing this out in the field. Do you all consider putting up a “finger-safe” barrier for the 120VAC?

I only consider it because when you got three or four racks side-by-side, the screws on the L/N/GND terminals shine awfully bright and most IT folks won’t know what they’re looking at.

All right, time to get these bench tested, configured, then out to the field to be installed.
